Deterence is the best defense against problem bird populations. By denying them areas ot perch, roost or nest, they will find other places to colonize. Three main types of deterrence exist for birds: physical, chemical and sonic:

• Physical - Physical deterrence for birds consist of bird netting, spikes, bird wire and mesh. These products do not harm the birds and serve mainly to deny birds an opportunity to stop flying.
• Chemical - Most municipalities in the US restrict chemicals meant to kill birds. Chemical bird control consist of taste eversion and fogging products.
• Sonic - Sonic bird deterrents are used mainly for open space, including orchards, vineyards and crops, and mimic predator noises or percussions designed to frighten away bird pests. Ultrasonic devices also exist that deter birds from more confined spaces such as garages and warehouses.
